This is Part 1 of 3 Behaviour Support Programmes.
The BSP 1 is a module of work that can be used with students who are unable to demonstrate effective social skills and frequently allow their emotions to get the better of them, often demonstrating bouts of anger and increased emotion. The module is best suited to be delivered by a Mentor or Behaviour Coach in a 1-1 or small group environment.
It consists of between 4-6 lessons and contains all appropriate worksheets and lesson guidance.
This resource contains extensive statements that can be used and developed as part of an effective plenary to review learning that has taken place - it also contains the ‘Plenary Place Mat’ that can be kept by students so that they can regularly reflect upon learning that has taken place in the lesson - in my provision the Plenary Place Mat was stuck to the student desk.
This Bundle has been updated to include additional resources…these include:
Using appropriate language to manage behaviour incidents - for personal or staff training use
The very popular IBP template
An isolation Reflection Form
A popular Behaviour Risk Assessment template
This Extensive Bundle contains all ‘Behaviour Related Resources’ from my portfolio that have been developed throughout my career.
The Bundle aims to support staff expertise in Improving, Managing and Tracking Behaviour in a range of establishments, as well as providing proven modules of work that can be added to a Life Skills/PSHE Programme to support student self-reflection and which has had proven positive impact, in a range of settings for students from a range of diverse and complex backgrounds.
Just Look at what this pack contains
Part 1 and 2 of my Behaviour Improvement/Life Skills Module for intensive working with small groups and 1-1 situations
Behaviour Training for all staff - using appropriate language/using appropriate questioning to redirect in the classroom, appropriate transition techniques
Staff self-reflection Behaviour Management assessment
Behaviour targets that can be used to track and monitor student behaviour
Extensive work on setting up your new student code of conduct
Bullying contract and exemplar letters
Advice on improving levels of FTE in your school
Using class behaviour protocols to support your teachers
The stopping swearing life skills module that helped reduce student swearing in my PRU
Behaviour Case Study template for putting together useful case studies for inspection
All staff require appropriate training - this resource is the transcript and task notes for a short training session I delivered to Lunch Time Supervisors and Play Leaders.
It contains information on assertiveness training and basic Behaviour Mangement tips for Lunch Time staff.
A module of work to support students who have been excluded from school; An ideal piece of work for delivery to those students who have received more than 1 FTE who will form a targeted group within your provision.
The 8-9 week module can be delivered by a Mentor, Tutor, LSA or more specialist teacher both in 1-1 sessions or with targeted groups of students. It could also be delivered through a Life Skills or PSHE Programme - I originally wrote the module for delivery by PSHE teachers in a KS3 PRU.
The key focus for the module is:
Looking at an ideal future
Locus of control
Appropriate decision making
Stop, Think, Go
How to handle stress
Do you have an induction process for a new student? If so, this resource will help your colleagues get to know them a little better, especially useful in AP where new students may be a little nervous about sharing information; this mini booklet asks some gentle questions to help the colleague inducting the student to collate useful information and encourage discussion.
Are you a new Head looking to identify key priorities for improvement?
If so, you may find this real life exemplar of an Action Planning Document very useful; designed in a manner that has both clarity and coherence.
After securing a Headship in a school requiring improvement and having made numerous visits to my new school (and after reading appropriate documentation and data) I decided to write the template identified in this resource. The layout helped me to formulate key action points in a clear and coherent manner; it also proved to be a useful document for my colleagues in SLT, from which we were able to identify key points for moving forward; the document fed into the School Development Plan and SEF and helped us to focus on key priorities.
Pastoral Leaders use Part time provision for exceptional circumstances often where there is a complete breakdown in school discipline or where the reduced provision will benefit the health and wellbeing of the student.
Such provision needs tracking and auditing; this resource provides you with a visual week by week tracker that identifies student targets and incentives during the reduced provision, that can be used as ongoing evidence for the review process at the end of the agreed time.
This exemplar tracker is set up for a 4 week Programme but it can be adapted to suit student needs - the document can be referred to when staff need to discuss behaviour and the targets with the student.
I also include a recording sheet with this resource.
Do you have Peer mentors or Peer Mediators in your school…If not, then why not?
Peer Mentors can offer another layer of support for your Pastoral System in any educational setting; You will find that if the Mentors/Mediators become embedded as part of your Pastoral System, then other students will generally respond very well to them.
If students are trained correctly and they are given the responsibility and trust to work with younger students they can become an invaluable team in your school.
This support pack offers guidance and advice for your Mentors/Mediators as they move forward in their role; it gives advice on how to run a meeting, it identifies key questions to ask and key words to use alongside tips on problem solving.
I wrote this resource once I had trained up the Mentors in my Centre and they commented it gave them useful support in their role.
A very useful template for collating information on new students to your provision. This can be used by staff supporting the induction of new students or indeed by admin staff who support the collation of information on new students - Once completed this is a useful document to share with key staff who work with the student.
Are you interviewing for Pastoral Posts within your school or beyond? This grid of questions identifies key areas of focus for the role and desired responses from your candidates - an ideal companion for non teaching pastoral posts, or indeed those of a more senior nature.
This resource consists of a presentation that I wrote and delivered on Differentiation for staff training. The slides explain clearly what differentiation is, how it links to effective learning for all students and the keys ways to differentiate in the classroom. The presentation can be paused at regular intervals so that staff can discuss the points raised.
It formed part of a whole morning training session and so what would be required after the delivery of the Power Point, is an opportunity for colleagues to explore the process of differentiation/ideas in their subject or departmental teams.
This is an extensive list of statements that were developed to support staff and students (Student Voice) in formulating a new whole school Code of Conduct. After the brainstorm of statements comes well written examples that may be an ideal fit for your schools.
The statements are split into sections that include:
Classroom Code of Conduct
Corridor Behaviour
Developing Positive Relationships
Conduct during Break and Lunch Time
Conduct in the Community
How do we develop/enrich learning in our establishments to enhance student outcomes?
I delivered this powerpoint as part of a refresher for my staff, to help enrich and develop wider thought on how they can deliver effective lessons that enhance the learning experience for students.
This powerpoint is stand alone and can be delivered as part of whole school staff training - no further resources are required.
Careers Bundle Updated.
An excellent Bundle that has recently been updated - all of the resources support the development of an effective Careers Programme across KS3-KS5
I have updated this bundle to include:
The new World of Work and Jobs module for either Year 7 or 8
A Year 9 Transition Booklet with a focus on next steps in Year 10
A review template to help students think about their career aspirations
The Bundle also contains:
Student reflection sheets for Work Experience and Work Related Learning.
An extensive student booklet that guides them into producing a ‘Careers Statement’ that will prove useful when applying for jobs and College courses.
A Careers module self-assessment sheet
A mini module focused on preparing for an interview that can be incorporated into PSHE/Careers lessons.
A Career Action Plan for students
Are you an NQT or new teacher applying for a new Job?
Following on from my popular Head Teacher draft letter, this one is suited to those at University applying for new jobs or indeed those teachers new to the profession.
This one is aimed at a Primary School application because it is one I wrote for my Daughter in law: good luck with the job hunting!
This is a Year Planner for Assembly Themes (Highlighted in Red on a Monday) and Thought for the Day (For each day during the school year). Although this is one I wrote for the last school year (Dates on Calendar will be for 2019/2020)
it will still provide some creative ideas for assembly themes and thoughts for the day that can be further developed by your tutors or teachers of PSHE.
It is all perfectly laid out on a calendar style template.
A very simple tool to enable a quick student snapshot for tracking behaviour, effort and overall progress in a range of subject across the curriculum. Can be used to collate information before parental meetings, PEP meetings, EHCP Reviews etc.
A template that can be used to help formulate an effective Home/School Agreement between the school, the Parent and the Child; this can be modified to suit a variety of circumstances and be used to outline key areas of improvement that are required by the student involved.
I have written the attached guidance in an attempt to support teachers in managing behaviour as more students return in September, many of whom may have remained out of school for months and may find settling back at school problematic.
This guidance may be shaped by ongoing health and safety considerations and the Back to School Guidance published on July 3rd, but what it does, is offer a range of tips and strategies to use that may support you and your students into a smoother transition.
I would welcome any feedback on this document so that I can adapt and improve it for the many teachers who will need to manage their classrooms with students who may have fallen out of routine.
